What is Google Wave?

As previously noted, Google Wave has been a much hyped about real-time communication platform that has been available to developers since June and was just released to an additional 100,000 select people for the first public beta a few days ago on September 30th. In that time there’s been much discussion around Google Wave and what exactly it will offer. While “real-time communication platform” is somewhat self-descriptive, there’s still a lot of speculation around what that means exactly, how Google Wave is utilizing it, and how it benefits the end user. To help answer some of these compelling questions, as well as the simple one of:  “What is google wave and is it better than email?” Epipheo Studios created this simple, yet entertaining, breakdown of some of Google Wave’s key features. It’s a great presentation that fits more qualified information into the 2+ minutes of video than most articles you’ll find on the web.

While I belive the technology itself is indeed game changing, personally, I see Google Wave offering a much greater value to the enterprise market than the public one. As this video demonstrates, it’s great in a collaborative environment. But, as people are starting to notice, using it as your everyday email client is quite noisy… taking your attention away from accomplishing the task at hand - composing an email.

That being said, the future still looks bright for various incarnations of the wave through the API as developers desire to improve on the above issues will undoubtedly take over.
