On the heels of what was the top-selling game worldwide for 2007, reaching over seven million copies by January 2008, and over 13 million by May 2009, game developer Infinity Ward has set, yet another, new standard.

From CNET News:

On Thursday, Activision said that its brand-new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which hit store shelves on Tuesday, had “shattered” the previous record for opening-day sales by an entertainment property, earning $310 million in North America and the U.K. alone. That equates to 4.7 million copies of the new game sold in those regions, and, if true, would eclipse the previous first-day sales record of $310 million globally, which GTA IV set in May of 2008.

Additionally, Xbox Live had its busiest day ever!

From GamePro:

Buoyed by the release of Modern Warfare 2, Xbox Live had its biggest day of all time, with more than two million gamers logged on at one time.

Earlier today [11/12/09], G4TV reported that a Microsoft exec recently boasted that this past Tuesday was the biggest day in the history of Xbox Live, with over two million players on the service simultaneously. Xbox spokesman Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb corroborated the achievement with a celebratory tweet earlier today.

I must admit… Modern Warfare 2 might be the best game ever produced. Truly amazing!
