We’ve all heard about it, read about it and perhaps have even seen it. It’s the new Nexus One Mobile Phone the from Google.

So far, since yesterday’s release, it’s been extremely well received. From the pics, specs, and videos the praise seem to be justified. The Nexus One is indeed a beautiful piece of equipment and should give some smart phones a good run for their money.

While there are many interesting moves Google is taking with the Nexus One, their clear objective here is to further push their mobile platform, Android. One move in particular I find very interesting is the fact that Google has now gone into the retail business. Actually, it’s the only way you can get your hands on one of these new beauties… after you purchase it online. You can buy one at www.google.com/phone for $529 unlocked — meaning you can use it month to month on any compatible network — or for $179 with a two-year T-Mobile contract. Verizon Wireless plans to offer it in the spring. One things for sure, they sure are getting some great advertising space…

It will be interesting to see how the competition heats up with the industry’s 800 lb gorilla, the iPhone. One advantage that the Nexus One has over the iPhone is that its various technologies are all part of the Open Screen Project, which means it can run Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1. Which is huge. Even though the trend continues to move away from Flash based websites, many sites still incorporate various Flash elements and modules for enhanced interactivity, gaming, navigation, video, and the like. As seen below, it works surprisingly well and speaks volumes towards the future of OSPs mantra: “Enable consumers to engage with rich Internet experiences seamlessly across any device, anywhere.”

How does the Nexus One stack up to the rest of the market?
